Privacy Policy

This Privacy Policy explains how theupscale.app, available at theupscale.app and as a mobile app for Android and iOS (together the "Platform", "we", "us", or "our"), operated by Naanjil Technologies Private Limited, collects, uses, and safeguards information when you use the Platform (the "Service"). By using the Service you agree to the practices described here.

1. Information We Collect

We collect information in the following ways:

• Account information — name, email address, and password when you register.
• Profile information — a profile photo and other details you voluntarily provide.
• Usage data — pages visited, practice sessions completed, scores, streak counts, XP points, and timestamps of activity generated automatically as you use the Service.
• Device and log data — IP address, browser type, operating system, referral URL, and similar technical data collected automatically by our servers.
• Payment information — if you buy a paid plan or a test series on the website, payment details are processed directly by our payment processor (Razorpay). If you buy inside the mobile app, the payment is processed by the app store you bought through (Google Play on Android, the App Store on iOS), and we receive only a record of the purchase: what was bought, when, and whether it is active. We never receive or store card, UPI, or bank details.
• Crash and error reports — if the mobile app or the website runs into a fault, a report is sent to our error-reporting provider (Sentry). A report contains the error, the app version, the device model and operating system version, the last few actions taken in the app, and your account ID. It does not contain your name, email address, or anything you typed.
• Leaderboard information — if you choose to appear on the leaderboard, your display name, level, streak, and XP are shown to other users. This is off until you turn it on.

The mobile app asks for no device permissions beyond internet access. It does not read your contacts, location, photos, or files.

2. How We Use Your Information

We use the information we collect to:

• Create and manage your account and deliver the core features of the Service.
• Personalise your learning experience and track your progress.
• Process subscription payments and manage billing.
• Send transactional emails (e.g. password resets, payment receipts), and, if you have opted in, an occasional newsletter about new material and study tips. You can opt out at any time from your profile settings.
• Find and fix faults in the Service, using crash and error reports.
• Analyse aggregate usage patterns to improve the Service.
• Detect, investigate, and prevent fraudulent or unauthorised activity.
• Comply with applicable laws and legal obligations.

We do not sell or rent your personal information to third parties.

3. Cookies and Tracking

We use only strictly necessary cookies: a session cookie to keep you logged in, and a security cookie to protect against cross-site request forgery. Separately, our servers keep standard access logs (IP address, browser type, referral URL) which we review in aggregate to understand usage. You can disable cookies in your browser settings, but because the cookies we use are essential, the Service will not function without them.

4. Data Sharing

We share your information only in the following limited circumstances:

• Service providers — third-party vendors who help us operate the Service, under confidentiality obligations: Render (hosting), Cloudflare (file storage), Resend (email delivery), Razorpay (payments on the website), Google Play and Apple (payments in the mobile app), and Sentry (crash and error reporting). Some of these providers store data outside India, including in the United States and the European Union.
• Legal requirements — when required by law, court order, or governmental authority.
• Business transfers — in connection with a merger, acquisition, or sale of assets, with notice to you.

5. Data Retention

We retain your personal data for as long as your account is active or as needed to provide the Service. You can delete your account yourself at any time, from the website (Profile → Delete account) or from the mobile app (Profile → Settings → Delete account), or ask us to delete it: see Delete your account. Deleting your account removes your profile, progress, planner, test results, and leaderboard entry at once. Payment records are kept for as long as tax and accounting law requires, and crash reports already sent are deleted by our error-reporting provider within 90 days. A subscription bought through Google Play or the App Store is billed by that store and must be cancelled there; deleting your account does not cancel it.

6. Security

We implement industry-standard technical and organisational measures — including encrypted connections (HTTPS), hashed passwords, and restricted access controls — to protect your information.

7. Children's Privacy

The Service is not directed at children under 18. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 18. If you believe a child has provided us information, please contact us and we will delete it promptly.

8. Your Rights

Depending on your jurisdiction you may have rights to access, correct, or delete your personal data, or to restrict or object to its processing. You can correct your name and display name, change your newsletter and leaderboard choices, and delete your account from your profile settings on the website or in the app. For anything else, contact us at contact@theupscale.app.

9. Changes to This Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. We will notify you of material changes by posting the new policy on this page with an updated effective date. Continued use of the Service after changes constitutes your acceptance of the revised policy.
